EVENT: Briefing for corporate members on gold investment
Date: 13th June, 2019 Time: 01:00 pm - 02:30 am
Two executives from the World Gold Council delivered a briefing to ABA Corporate members on the gold market, and in particular new Shari'ah-compliant gold investment products that have recently been developed.
The main points of the presentation were:
- Gold offers strong risk-adjusted returns, diversification, and low volatility.
- Uncertainty around Shari'ah portfolios and gold has been removed following the publication of Aaoifi's Shari'ah Standard on gold in 2016. The Standard expands the range of products in which Shari'ah-observant investors may place their money.
- Indicators suggest that now might be a good time for investors to think about allocating some of their funds to gold. The current S&P P/E ratios and the length of the bull run on the US $ are such that future returns are unlikely to match those seen in recent years.
