EVENT: Tutorial on Whistleblowing
Date: 19th June, 2019 Time: 09:30 am - 12:30 pm
On 19 June, Ida Nowers, a Senior Advisor at Protect, the UK's leading whistleblowing organisation, gave a full-morning tutorial to ABA members on the requirements for UK firms to provide whistleblowing options, and also on best practices for whistleblowing arrangements.
Most of the attendees were HR managers or compliance managers in London branches or subsidiaries of Arab banks.
The presentation and discussion considered issues such as the scope of the Public Interest Disclosure Act, PRA/FCA regulations on whistleblowing and EU directives. Ms Nowers also led a discussion on optimal ways to handle whistleblowers and on how to distinguish between whistleblowing and grievences.
Protect was formed in 1993 and provides advice to organisations on whistleblowing and also to individuals who are pursuing whistleblowing claims. Protect also offers a 360º Benchmark service to help organisations understand whether their whistleblowing arrangements are working. The 360º Benchmark addresses Governance, Engagement and Operations; identifies strengths and weaknesses; and provides a workplan for improvement. Protect's website is www.protect-advice.org.uk
