New Appointments in the Middle East

National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) has appointed Salah Al-Fulaij as CEO of its operations in Kuwait. Fulaij was previously CEO of NBK Capital, the group's investment banking arm. He joined NBK in 1985. 

Faisal Abdullatif al-Hamad will replace Fulaij as CEO of NBK Capital. Hamad was previously Managing Director of Brokerage and Research. Nabil Nayef Maroof has been appointed Deputy CEO of NBK Capital. He was previously Senior Managing Director of Asset Management.

NBK Capital has announced that it is putting all funds managed by its Alternative Investments Group into a new entity: NBK Capital Partners. The new entity will be led by Amjad Ahmed, who founded NBK Capital's alternative investments business in 2007. NBK Capital Partners will be based in Dubai and regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority.

Barclays Bank has appointed Tariq el-Rifai to be Managing Director of Barclays Bank Egypt, replacing Edward Marks. Rifai had previously spent 25 years with BNY Mellon, most recently as Senior Executive Officer in Dubai and head of client Management for the Middle East and Africa. BNY Mellon appointed Tarek Sherlala to replace Rifai in Dubai. Sherlala will continue in this role as BNY Mellon's head of asset servicing in the Middle East and Africa, working alongside Rajai Ayyash, the regional executive for the Gulf region. 

BNY Mellon also announced changes to its senor team in the region: Imad Abukhlal continues as head of Middle East and Africa for BNY Mellon Investment Management EMEA, based in Dubai; Giambattista Atzeni takes a newly created role leading BNY Mellon's international wealth management activities in the region; Brian Hoey takes over as head of sales and relationship management for Corporate Trust, managing relationships in Turkey the Middle East and North Africa; Clive Robinson moves to Dubai from the Netherlands to develop asset servicing across the Middle East, and particularly the GCC; and Bana Akkad Azhari, based in Lebanon, heads relationship Management for the Middle East & North Africa, Turkey and the CIS for BNY Bllon's Treasury services business, while continuing as client executive and country manager for the Levant and North Africa. 

National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) has appointed Omar Mehanna as Managing Director and Global Head of Merchant banking. Mehanna joins NBAD from Saudi British Bank, where he was Chief Strategy Officer.
